Romania is a middle income country with a GNI per capita of
$3,830 in 2005 (GNI, Atlas method). With a population of 21.6
million, it is the second largest country in Central and Eastern
Europe (CEE). It is larger than 19 of the 25 current members of
the European Union (EU).
