New Implementation Report on Stability Pact
Infrastructure Projects
Brussels,
October 18, 2000
Based
on contributions from lead agencies, the Joint EC/World Bank Office
for South East Europe has just issued a report on the status of
implementation of Stability Pact Infrastructure Projects. The note
reports that out of the 34 infrastructure projects and studies for
which financing was sought--worth an estimated cost of Eur 1.2 bn--the
financing plan is complete for all but one project, where there is a
financing gap of euro 29 mn (3% of the total). Bidding for contracts
has started for one-third of the projects while implementation is
now underway on six of the projects. While completing the financing
package was a critical step for the package as a whole, the Joint
Office report says that the main challenge now is on project
implementation, for which major efforts during the coming months by
the beneficiary countries and lead agencies concerned are still
required.
