Title: |
Bucharest-Giurgiu |
|
Objective: |
The Romanian
government’s policy is to implement a motorway network
programme on the most heavily traveled routes. The road
between Bucharest and Giurgiu on the Pan-European Corridor IX
has rather lower traffic, and a reduced standard expressway is
thus used. Giugiu is the border crossing point over the Danube
to Bulgaria. The total distance Bucharest-Giurgiu is 72 km |
|
Description: |
Construction of a 2x2 lane
expressway on the section Adunatii Copaceni-Giurgiu, 39 km,
following the alignment of the existing road |
|
Preparation Status/Timing: |
Feasibility study
completed May 1999, land acquisition completion planned for
March 2000, start of construction planned for 2003, completion
planned for 2006 |
|
Economic/Financial Justification: |
Traffic is rather
low, but is showing strong growth, and in view of the lower
expressway standard being used, the economic rate of return is
still satisfactory. |
