Title:

Roads – sections of corridor Vc

Objective:

Elimination of major traffic bottlenecks and improving access on Corridor Vc passing through Bosnia-Herzegovina

Description:

(i) 10 km-long, 1x2-lane by-pass southeast of Sarajevo along road E73 connecting the port of Ploce, Mostar, Sarajevo and Tuzla.
(ii) replacement of a provisional single-lane wooden-decked bridge with a 2x1 lane (plus footpaths) bridge made of pre-stressed concrete elements, at Capljina over the Neretva river, linking the town to the E73 road

Preparation Status/Timing:

Finance contract about to be signed.

Economic/Financial Justification:

(i) ERR of 18% to 20% (preliminary estimates).
(ii) Least cost solution

Cost:

(i) EUR 50 M
(ii) EUR 7 M

Financing Plan:

European Investment Bank concess loan of EUR 28 M (with EC interest subsidy)
Government of Japan financed the detailed design
Still to be identified grants or concess. loans from European Commission or bilateral agencies.
Local budgetary sources EUR 6 M.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Road Directorate of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Major Sector/Project Issues:

Tender documents to be prepared. Implementing Agency is relatively new and demands close monitoring.
