Title:

Water supply and wastewater rehabilitation

Objective:

Rehabilitation of the water supply and sanitation of five towns of Vlora, Fier, Lezhe, Saranda and Gjirokaster

Description:

This project would be a follow-up of the ongoing PHARE projects. Examples of components which could be included are:
  • rehabilitation of the Vlora water supply and distribution
  • renewal of most of the Gjirokaster water supply and distribution
  • similar components for the other towns

Preparation Status:

The detailed engineering and tender documents of the Vlora water supply, financed by PHARE, started in February 1999 and should be completed within 11 months.
For Gjirokaster, the PHARE consultant in charge of the design for the emergency works will provide recommendations for additional water works and a general feasibility for the sewerage network.

Economic/Financial Justification:

In view of the very unsatisfactory state of existing water supply and sewerage systems, rehabilitation is an urgent requirement and economic analysis indicates that the economic rates of return exceed 10%
